February Favourites

This month has honestly gone by soo quick. Before we know it, it'll be 2016. A bit scary to be honest...

This month I had quite a few favourites. I've recently fallen in love with Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation which is my holy grail foundation. I mentioned it here. Next up is a new thing. I bought Soap and Glory's One Heck Of A Blot on a whim and sure am glad I did. All my oily-skin girls need this because this certainly does blot away the oil/keep your skin from becoming oily during the day. I use it in the morning before I leave and don't have to top it up at all! I use this in combination with my Primark Kabuki Brush, this is the only kabuki brush I own and it's so soft. I use this to put the powder on my face and it sets everything and is a lot quicker to use than normal fluffy/powder brushes!

My favourite lip products of this month are MAC Lipstick in Taupe which I only received a week ago but I love it already. This is the only nude lipstick that I've found to match my skintone so I've been wearing it every day for a natural makeup look. It doesn't feel dry on your lips but makes your lips so dry afterwards. Gerard Cosmetics Lipsticks in 1995 was one I was wearing near the beginning of the month. I wear this with another lipstick as, unfortunately, it doesn't suit my skintone as much. I reviewed this here. I have also been loving Sleek Eau La La Liner in Lingerie which is dupe for MAC Lipliner in Soar. Unlike the Soar lipliner, this one compliments my skintone and lasts all day.

Avon Eyeshadow Primer in Light Beige has helped make my eyeshadows become 'more pigmented' on my eyes. Benefit's Roller Lash Mascara, which was reviewed here, is my go-to mascara for long and thick lashes that almost look fake, whereas Benefit's Bad Gal Lash Mascara is one I use for my no-makeup makeup look as it makes my lashes look naturally long.

I have also been loving Smart Water but rather the bottle than the actual water. The smooth bottle appeals to me and makes me want to use it. I fill this up with orange or Ribena squash and I've actually started to drink a lot more water than I used to! Special K Cereal Bar in Red Berry is by-far my most favourite cereal bar. I discovered this in year 9 and prefer it to the actual cereal. Unlike the cereal, this bar tastes soo good and does actually fill you up.  I have also been loving Nutella; I've managed to get through 2 jars in 3 weeks (shocking!). I didn't get a chance to take a picture of it because it was already finished, oops. Since I have cut down on sugar a lot in my diet, I have realised that whenever I eat a lot of sugar-filled products suddenly, I start to get spots. But to be truthful the taste of Nutella is soo good that I actually don't mind this right now.

One of my friends recently got Netflix (hurrah!) and I've been watching it non-stop. I'm currently watch these series: The L Word, Scrubs, Orange Is The New Black and QI. I recommend these if anyone is struggling to find anything to watch on Netflix, but I doubt that. Songs I've been enjoying this month are: I Never Told You What I Do For A Living by My Chemical Romace, No Scrubs by TLC, 2 On by Tinashe and Astronaut by Simple Plan.

Choosing A Foundation | Skin Types, Formulas and Applications

I already know this will be quite a long post so let's get into it!

Skin Types

Source
There are four most common skin types: dry, normal, combination and oily skin. Dry skin tends to flake easily whereas oily skin is the complete opposite. I have combination skin where I have an oily t-zone with normal normal skin else where. This makes finding the right foundation quite hard.

Foundation Types

BB Creams
This stands for blemish balm and has super light coverage. It contains SPF so it'll protect you from sun damage. But since it does contain SPF, it does give flashback in photos. I typically don't wear BB creams as the coverage is way too light for me.

CC Creams
This stands for colour correct, therefore it cancels out any redness in your skin. It provides moisture for the skin. I don't wear CC Creams either.

Sheer Foundation
This gives a natural look as its coverage is super light, just as the BB creams. It gives a nice glow so it can illuminate the skin giving a younger and fresher look. This type of foundation doesn't look heavy at all.

Liquid Foundation
This is my favourite kind of foundation and one I have been wearing since I was 14. It is suitable for most skin types and I just mattify the foundation with a powder such as Natural Collection Loose Powder or Soap and Glory's One Heck Of A Blot. Ones I have found that work particularly good on oily/combination skins are Rimmel Match Perfection, Maxfactor Facefinity and Maybelline Fit Me.

Primer

Primers are a bit like marmite; some absolutely love them and swear by them, whilst others don't use them at all. I am the former. Having oily/combination skin, I use primers to keep my skin as matt as possible for as long as possible. I also find that primers make my makeup last a lot longer. Primers I swear by are GOSH Velvet Touch Primer which I use all over my face and Maybelline Baby Skin which I use on my cheeks as it is silicone based so it 'masks' pores.

Application

For BB/CC Creams, you can simply use your fingers and apply as it was a moisturiser. Some people use brushes such as the Real Techniques Buffing Brush. For sheer/liquid foundations, brushes such as the Real Techniques Stippling Brush and the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush can be used or a Beauty Blender or the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponger which are reviewed here. Some people, such as Sonjdradeluxe use their fingers to apply liquid foundations, but obviously are very experienced and can do so flawlessly.

Beauty Blender Dupes?

Left to right: eBay Beauty Blender #1Real Techniques
Miracle Complexion Sponge, eBay Beauty Blender #2
Beauty blenders remind me of when myself and a lot of people used to use makeup sponges to apply foundation with when I was quite young. Since, people have been using brushes or beauty blenders or perhaps both together.

I bought eBay Beauty Blender #1 first and it was soo good. The pointy bit can be used to apply concealer or foundation in the hard-to-reach areas. I used the flat top to apply and blend my foundation with. This cost a mere 99 pence from eBay. When this brush split (after half a year) I bought another one (shown in the picture) however this one is way too hard even when damp so it's rendered useless. It's a bit of a hit-and-miss with these.

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge is one I purchased quite recently. It cost £5.99 which is quite reasonable. This is a god-send as it blends your foundation flawlessly, however it's really hard to apply foundation with.

eBay Beauty Blender #2 also costs just 99p but this one has lasted me a year or so. It allows you to apply and blend your foundation so it's a two-in-one product. I did buy a back-up of this recently but like ebay Beauty Blender #1 the latter was too hard to use.

All of these do expand when moistened. Since I have oily skin, I hesitated to use it damp but I have found that if I wetten the sponger then place it in a towel and squeeze it, then excess water is taken out and it doesn't make my already oily skin worse.

My sister owns an actual beauty blender but they are super titchy, about the size of a finger if that. They do expand a lot if they're wet too, but I don't think I will be actually purchasing an actual beauty blender any time soon as my dupes are just as good!

Benefit Roller Lash *REVIEW*

Everyone and their mother went out to buy ELLE magazine just for Benefit's Roller Lash mascara. The sample mascara has a rose gold lid which just looks amazing. It doesn't look anything like the normal size mascara and to be honest I actually prefer this packaging to the normal one but this id down to personal prefer This is supposed a 'super-curling and lifting mascara'. I can definitely vouch for this as it did exactly that!

The actual mascara wand itself has a Hook'n'Roll brush which has a patent-pending hook design and position that catches, lifts and curls lashes. The mascara does curl and lift your lashes and it does last for a long time. I wore it at 9 in the morning 'til 8 in the evening and it didn't smudge nor let my lashes 'droop' at the end of the day. I will be definitely be purchasing this when it releases on 26th February!

Lipstick Tag

I absolutely love lipsticks (I'd go far as to say I'm a self-confessed lipstick queen!) and I found this tag which is perfect for me!

44 which is a lot as I only started buying
lipsticks in august (I counted liquid lipsticks,
jumbo pencils and stains too)

Moss in Shade 30

3. What is your most worn lipstick?

4. What is your favourite brand of lipstick?

buy lipsticks depending on the colour

otherwise a satin finish

6. What is the last lip product you bought?
W7 Mega Matte Lips in Wine which was
delivered just this morning!

7. How many lip products (everything) do you have
in your handbag?
4 but a few weeks ago I had almost
10 in there, eek

I don't actually wear red lips as I prefer berry colours

9. How do you store your lipsticks?
I have some in a lipstick holder, a drawer
and a box

Gerard Cosmetics 1995 Lipstick *REVIEW*

This is a post on another Gerard Cosmetics' lipstick. I reviewed Cherry Cordial here.

I have included a photo of the lipstick next to a MAC bullet and a Makeup Revolution Lip Geek Lipstick for comparison purposes. Gerard Cosmetics' one is slightly smaller than a MAC lipstick and about the same width as the Makeup Revolution one. Also, the metallic gold colour is soo beautiful!

This particular lipstick is one created by popular YouTuber Jaclyn Hill. Now, I don't watch her videos but my sister does and she is the one who introduced me to this lipstick. The formula is super matte and is so drying on my lips so I wear lipbalm underneath it, but since it is matte it lasts about 5-6 hours. The pigmentation is superb so only a swipe is needed for an opaque colour.

The colour is a mauve-y brown colour which would suit perhaps light to an olive complexion. Being a medium to dark complexion I do find it hard to make it suit myself so I wear this lipstick in combination with another one or just wear it as minimally I can. This lipstick is also a typical 'Kylie Jenner' lip colour.

One thing I don't like about this lipstick is the strong smell. It reminds me of orange chocolate which I despise. You can smell it once you apply the lipstick but it does fade after about 10 minutes.

Recent Purchases #1

I went shopping recently and thought I'd show you my picks! Most of this was on sale or quite cheap so it's super affordable!

I bought three foundations, yes I do know that I don't really need that many but it'll last me a long time and I really wanted to purchase these, plus they were on sale so I couldn't really say no, right?! I bought L'Oreal True Match Foundation and so far am pleased with it! It retails for £9.99 but only cost me £7 as Boots was doing 2 for £14 on L'Oreal products; my sister (link) bought something too and reviewed it here. I originally bought only Rimmel Lasting Finish 25hr Nude Foundation but ended up buying Rimmel Lasting Finish 25hr Foundation too. These both retail for £7.99 but were on offer so only cost £4.99 so was a bargain!

From Topshop I bought their Lip and Cheek Stain in Bitten Berry which only cost a pound!! It originally costs £7 but was priced down and I have been using this non-stop since I bought it. I also bought Gerard Cosmetics Lipstick in 1995 and in Cherry Cordial, I did a review of the latter here. (silly me forgot to photograph Cherry Cordial, sorry) 1995 is super matte and drying, whereas Cherry Cordial is a satin finish so feels more comfortable. These costs around £9 each with promo codes.

I picked up a Makeup Revolution Blush in Love which is the perfect blush shade for my skin tone. It's really subtle so it's perfect for me. This cost only £1. Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge was one I bought for Beauty With Hajrah 's birthday. It only costs £5.99 and thought to buy myself one too. As you can see from the picture, it's already been used because I was super excited to use it. I will be doing a review for this soon in the near future. I originally bought the Makeup Revolution Focus and Fix Kit only so I could use the wax, but I've started using the other shades and they work so well with my eyebrow shade. There isn't much fall out either.

All About That Bass

'Because you know I'm all about that bass, bout that bass' (I couldn't help myself, sorry)

A good base for you makeup means you'll more flawless and that your makeup will last longer. So far, I have a few that work great for me.

Maxfactor Facefinity All Day Primer - I had high hopes for this after reading a review that said it was 'like super glue but for makeup', maybe it was because of this I was slightly disappointed. Yes, it did make my makeup last longer but only for a few hours. It resembles PVC but doesn't smell like it, which is good. I'd say this primer is good for when you#re only going out for about 4-5 hours.

GOSH Velvet Touch Foundation Primer - This has been my favourite primer since discovering it last year. My makeup does last a lot longer than it used to and does make my makeup look better. It has a gel-like consistency which does make your face feel velvety. It has a slightly fragrant but it can't be smelt once applied. My makeup lasts all day because of this!

Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser - I thought I wouldn't like this but I actually did. This is silicone based and does 'erase your pores'. It makes application of makeup smoother but does not necessarily lengthen it's longevity on your face. I use this as a combination with another primer.

Kiss Light Reflecting Primer - This is super lightweight and, much like the GOSH primer, makes your skin feel so smooth. I'd say this does make your makeup last at least two hours longer, if that!

Gerard Cosmetics Cherry Cordial Lipstick *REVIEW*

Gerard Cosmetics was having a free worldwide delivery promotion so I bought myself a few things. One of them was their lipstick in Cherry Cordial.

It costs $19 which seems much but with a few promotion codes it came upto around £9. I was hoping it would come in a lipstick box, much like the MAC lipsticks do but it came without one. The lipstick case itself is made out of plastic and I can see it breaking (not in the near future I hope). The case resembles the MAC bullets, shapewise. It's slightly smaller than a MAC bullet but about the same width of a Makeup Revolution Lip Geek lipstick. The actual packaging is so beautiful; it's a metallic gold colour so it definitely stands out. It does seem a bit plain but I like it like that.

It is a deep red colour with a satin finish so it feels super moisturising on the lips, not dry at all like the 1995 lipstick by the same brand. This colour would suit all skin tones, especially with those with a deeper complexion. It has a staying power of about 4-5 hours and I absolutely love this!

Mac Rebel Dupes

I have been meaning to post this in oh so long, but was just waiting for the last lipstick to arrive. I did a review of MAC Rebel here.

In total I have found 4 dupes for it.

mac rebel dupe, mac rebel dupes
left to right: makeup revolution lipstick,
nyc, mac, rimmel london lasting finish
by kate moss, wet n wild
Makeup Revolution Lipstick in Rebel With Cause (Vamp Shade) is a near identical colour, but is slightly lighter and a bit more pink toned. NYC City Proof Twistable Lip Colour in Gramercy Park is the same colour but a red tone version, whereas Wet n Wild Mega Last Matte Lip Colour in Sugar Plum Fairy is the exact colour, but a matte version. Rimmel London Lasting Finish by Kate Moss in Shade 30 is slightly darker than Rebel and more red toned. All these are identical once you actually put them on.
